We believe that it is God’s intention for the church to be actively involved in helping the poor and healing the sick. Historically, it has been Christians on the front lines of health and education paving the way forward and we believe that the church today has an important role to play in the process of economic development. While it is true that there exist many governmental and non-profit agencies that aim to help the poor in developing countries, the church’s role in the community gives it an advantage over these other organizations. The local church exists in the communities they aim to serve. This means that not only do they have first hand knowledge of the problems faced by the people who live in the surrounding area, but also established relationships with the community as a whole.

Our strategy for improving the lives of the people we serve is to work on problems we can deal with now, while providing opportunities for people to grow in the future. Practically there are four aspects of our plan: dig a well, put in a septic system, build a medical clinic, and construct a school. We chose to work in health and education not only because they are areas of great need, but also areas in which there are plenty of “low-hanging fruit” in terms of strategies to deal with these issues. Our work in health will focus on cost-effective preventive medicine (vaccines, bed nets, water treatment, etc.) while our education program will focus on working with small cohorts of children in each grade to ensure the greatest amount of academic success. We believe that local churches provide the right environment for success in these areas.
